General Department of Taxation Reminds Vehicle Owners to Pay Taxes Before 30 November

PHNOM PENH: The General Department of Taxation would like to remind all vehicle owners who have not yet fulfilled their tax obligations to hurry up and pay their taxes by 30 November 2022. In case of failure to pay taxes on time, vehicle owners will be punished according to the tax laws in force.

The Department emphasizes that it will cooperate with the competent authorities, especially the traffic police and military police, to inspect the implementation of tax collection on the streets after the tax collection period ends on 30 November.

All vehicle owners must bring their personal identification cards, vehicle identification cards, and vehicle technical inspection certificates issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to their respective provincial or communal tax branches, or to one of the banks that has an agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allow for the payment of taxes.

At the same time, vehicle owners that have declared their transportation taxes in the past can also pay through the "GDT Taxpayer App," which can be downloaded from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store.

Vehicles belonging to foreign embassies or consulates, international organizations, or governmental technical cooperation agencies must apply to the General Department of Taxation for a tax return (taxes owed by the state).

Vehicles owned by ministries, institutions, or units that are required to receive tax receipts on means of transportation (taxes owed by the state or paid by the payment mandate) must be registered with the General Department of State Property and Non-Fiscal Revenue of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Separately, private vehicles that have license plates under the State of Cambodia and the National Assembly will not be able to pay transport and vehicle taxes for 2022, unless they meet the tax and import obligations in accordance with the laws and regulations on customs and vehicle registration with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport first.

The General Department of Taxation has made regular announcements to vehicle owners to pay their taxes from the beginning of June until the end of November 2022.

The Department has emphasized that from 1 January 2023 onwards, it will cooperate with the competent authorities to inspect the tax declaration and impose fines on vehicle owners who have not declared their taxes in the previous year according to the tax laws in force.
