Canada Emphasizes Its Long-Term Relationship with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has emphasized the long-term relationship Canada has with Cambodia, especially regarding trade, diplomacy, education, and climate action.

Prime Minister Trudeau met with Prime Minister Hun Sen on the afternoon of Saturday, 12 November, 2022, and expressed his appreciation for the invitation to the ASEAN Summit as well as for Prime Minister Hun Sen's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and ASEAN's efforts to assist Myanmar regain peace.

Prime Minister Trudeau emphasized that bilateral relations with Cambodia are at the core of long-term cooperation, especially in trade, diplomacy, education, and climate action, and that ASEAN and Canada, including Cambodia, have a a lot of potential for cooperation in many sectors.

Prime Minister Hun Sen is interested in cooperation at both the bilateral and ASEAN level with Canada. During the meeting, he also briefed Prime Minister Trudeau about Cambodia and Japan's joint-effort to aid Ukraine with demining.
