ASEAN Chair Presides Over 10th ASEAN-US Summit

PHNOM PENH: On Saturday afternoon, 12 November 2022, the Chair of ASEAN, Prime Minister Hun Sen, presided over the 19th ASEAN-US Summit, which took place at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh.

The ASEAN Chair mentioned in his speech that the commitment of the US and the leadership of US President Joe Biden has supported ASEAN, which has contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

He also mentioned the partnership between ASEAN and the US in addressing major issues such as climate change, and a food and energy crisis.

At the last ASEAN-US meeting in Washington, D.C. all ASEAN leaders underlined their commitment to expanding relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, in a joint regional statement released to commemorate the 45th anniversary. 

President Biden thanked the ASEAN Chairman and mentioned that this was the third ASEAN summit of his presidency, and was honored to have hosted the ASEAN-US Summit in May earlier this year.

He added that he was looking forward to building a stronger relationship with ASEAN and also thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for his leadership as the ASEAN Chairman.
