Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, presided over the signing ceremony of over US $51 in grant aid from Japan on Saturday, 12 November 2022 at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh Hotel, during the ASEAN Summit.
The Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, DPM Prak Sokhonn, and the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Mikami Masahiro, signed an Exchange of Notes and related documents on the Extension of Japanese Grant Aid for four main projects.
Approximately US $17 million is allocated for the Project to Construct a Training Complex and Outreach Facility for the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (executed under JICA), approximately US $8 million for the implementation of the Economic and Social Development Program (executed under MOFA, Japan), approximately US $3 million for the Project to Improve Infectious Waste Management (executed under JICA), and approximately US $23 million for the Project to Expand the Phum Prek Water Supply System (Grant Project executed under JICA).
The Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance, DPM Aun Pornmonyroth, also signed two documents with the Japanese side. With the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office, Kamei Haruko, he signed the Grant Agreements for the above-mentioned three projects executed under JICA, and with the Executive Vice President of Toyota Tsusho, Toshimitsu Imal, he signed the Corporation Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
This grant aid extended by the Government of Japan will significantly contribute to the Royal Government of Cambodia's efforts to stimulate economic and social development of the Kingdom, and further enhance the existing good cooperation and bonds of traditional friendship between the two countries.
