ASEAN Chair and Indian VP Preside Over 19th ASEAN-India Summit

PHNOM PENH: On Saturday morning, 12 November, the ASEAN Chair, Prime Minister Hun Sen, presided over the 19th ASEAN-India Summit at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh.

The Vice President of the Republic of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, also co-chaired the meeting to mark the 30th anniversary of ASEAN Dialogue relations with India.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that ASEAN and India have made steady progress and become important socio-economic poles in the world over the past three decades. As a result of this development, ASEAN-India cooperation has been further developed and now has a broader base.

The Prime Minister added that the ASEAN-India relationship has become closer due to a strong commitment to strengthening this partnership, so both countries are able to ensure peace and prosperity for its peoples.

ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations grew rapidly from a Sectoral Dialogue Partnership in 1992 to a full Dialogue Partnership in December 1995. This relationship was further enhanced by the 2002 ASEAN-India Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Since then, the ASEAN-India Summit has been held annually.
