Summit Spokesperson Explains ASEAN Can Still Achieve Consensus Despite Absence of Myanmar Rep.

PHNOM PENH: The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN Summit Spokesperson, Kung Phoak, has confirmed that ASEAN can still achieve a consensus even if a Myanmar representative is not present at the Summit.

On Friday evening, 11 November 2022, Spokesperson Kung Phoak explained during a press conference that a consensus could still be reached because a flag and chair were set up as representatives of Myanmar.

It should be noted that the leaders and delegates of nine ASEAN member states are attending the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits, which are being held in Phnom, Penh, Cambodia from 10-13 November 2022. No representative from Myanmar has been sent to attend the Summit despite being invited.
