PHNOM PENH: The border demarcation process between Cambodia and Laos has been 86% complete, and the two countries will jointly sign a draft demarcation treaty during Prime Minister Hun Sen's visit to Vietnam in 2023.
The two sides have assigned the Joint Boundary Committees of the two countries to prepare and finalize the draft demarcation treaty between Cambodia and Laos for joint signing in 2023.
Progress on the border demarcation process between Cambodia and Laos was announced on Thursday, 10 November 2022, during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh.
The two leaders urged the authorities in their respective countries to carry out their duties responsibly in order to preserve peace and stability along the Cambodia-Laos border and to transform the area into a friendly and sustainable cooperation zone in the long term.
The two parties have also urged relevant authorities to implement the agreements on cooperation in the energy sector that have already been signed.
Both sides praised the close relations and effective cooperation between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1956.
The two leaders also praised the outcome of the 14th meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), and they emphasized the necessity of strengthening bilateral cooperation in order to boost trade and investment.
Both Prime Ministers agreed to continue regular visit exchanges and meetings between the leaders of the relevant ministries, institutions, and local authorities, in order to improve cooperation in numerous areas and solidify the long-standing diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos.
