PM Congratulates Khan Jessa on Winning Gold at Jiu-Jitsu World Championship

ABU DHABI: Cambodian jiu-jitsu champion, Jessa Khan, won a gold medal at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, after defeating Spain's Matthews Martin Naiomi in the final.

With this victory, Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulated the athlete through a post made on his official social media page.

"Congratulations to the champion Khan Jessa who won the gold medal in the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in the United Arab Emirates," he wrote.

Jessa Khan took part in the 52 kg Jiu-Jitsu (Newaza) event and defeated Baluyot Ashley Jeraine of the Philippines in the second round (top 16), Shraim Maitha of the United Arab Emirates in the third round (top eight), and Aronov Pnina of Israel in the semi-finals yesterday.

Reaching the finals, the multiethnic Khmer-American-Mexican athlete remained strong. Using a special tactic to trap Spain's Matthews Martin Naiomi for six minutes, the judges awarded the victory to the 21-year-old athlete, winning the gold medal in the 2022 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship for Cambodia.
