PM Calls on Armed Forces to Respond to Situation Caused by Sam Rainsy

KAMPONG CHHNANG: The Prime Minister of Cambodia has called on the armed forces, supporters of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), and those who oppose Sam Rainsy, to be ready to respond to this situation caused by the opposition leader.

Addressing a meeting with more than 3,000 flood victims in Kampong Chhnang Province on Tuesday morning, 26 October, the Prime Minister called on all armed forces in Cambodia to be prepared for any situation that may be caused by Sam Rainsy.

"I call on all disciplinary forces to be prepared for any situation that may arise and call on supporters of the CPP and other parties opposed to this person (Sam Rainsy) to be ready to take part in defending the monarchy, defending the throne, defending our King," said the Prime Minister.

This strong reaction from Prime Minister Hun Sen comes after Sam Rainsy, the former president of the Sam Rainsy Party, which then later reformed into the Candlelight Party, recently made comments insulting the King of Cambodia.

Sam Rainsy's comments have been met with widespread condemnation from the Royal Government and all ministries and institutions.
