BREAKING NEWS: PM Encourages Commune/Sangkat Councilors of the Candlelight Party to Declare Their Response to Sam Rainsy

Kampong Chhnang: Prime Minister Hun Sen encouraged all commune councilors from the Candlelight Party to declare their position on the insulting statement to the King by Sam Rainsy and furthermore, guaranteed their positions with no repercussion.

Speaking at a meeting with more than 3,000 flood victims in Kampong Chhnang province on the morning of 26 October 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that to state their own opinions regarding Sam Rainsy's statement was the rights of all members, with the Prime Minister ensuring that even if the Candlelight Party commune/sangkat councilors were to resign, the Ministry of Interior will not sign to remove them from the commune council.

The Prime Minister said: "And I would like to guarantee that no [position] changes is possible if the Minister of Interior Sar Kheng does not allow the change! This is true because to protect the King, [there is no reason to remove you from the post] and change to [someone else]. So the issue of exchange is not just you being expelled from the party, the problem is whether Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng signed the exchange or not?

The results of the 5th Mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election in June showed that the Candlelight Party controlled more than 2,000 Commune/Sangkat Council seats.

The "third generation traitor" Sam Rainsy, who was the president of the Sam Rainsy Party before becoming the Candlelight Party, recently insulted the King by saying that "the King of Cambodia has no national conscience," and for accusing the King of signing a decree that cut off land to foreigners. Such insults provoke condemnation from the Royal Government and all ministries and institutions.
