Army Asks Authorities to Arrest Sam Rainsy and Asks Court to Take Strict Legal Action

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) has asked authorities to immediately arrest opposition leader Sam Rainsy if he or his followers ever come back to Cambodia. The army has also asked the court to take the most serious legal action, without any exceptions, against Sam Rainsy for having insulted the King.

Leaders, officers, deputies and soldiers throughout the RCAF have strongly opposed and condemned the remarks made by Sam Rainsy in a recently released video clip where he insults the King of Cambodia.

The army has said that it considers this insult to be the most serious violation of the Cambodian Constitution, the supreme law of the nation, which in Article 7 states that the King cannot be violated by anyone.

The army has expressed that it is firmly committed to defending the Constitution and has also solemnly declared its resolve to march with the King of Cambodia forever.

Recently, a video clip of Sam Rainsy insulting the King was leaked online, where he said that "The King of Cambodia has no national conscience at all" and also accused the King of signing a royal decree that cut off local land for foreigners. Sam Rainsy's comments have been met with widespread condemnation from the Royal Government and all ministries and institutions.
