NA President to Attend 30th Annual Meeting of Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Thailand

PHNOM PENH: The President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, will lead a high-level delegation of the Cambodian Parliament to attend the 30th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-30) in Thailand for four days from 26-29 October 2022, at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Thailand, Chuan Leekpai.

According to a press release issued by the General Secretariat of the National Assembly on Thursday, 20 October, during the APPF-30 meeting, National Assembly President Heng Samrin will address the official meeting under the theme "Parliament and rehabilitation sustainability after Covid-19 to promote democracy, peace, and security."

The National Assembly President also plans to meet with his Thai counterpart and hold talks with parliamentary leaders of other friendly countries to strengthen and expand diplomatic ties and cooperation between parliaments in the international arena and within multilateral and bilateral frameworks.

The Asia-Pacific Parliament Forum (APPF) was initiated by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone in 1993 to promote parliamentary mechanisms for peace and social and economic development.

The National Assembly of Cambodia became a full member of this parliamentary forum in 1995. APPF currently has 28 full members.
