PHNOM PENH: The Supreme Patriarch of the Thammayut order of Cambodia, Bour Kry, has denounced and condemned Sam Rainsy for his opposition of the Royal Government of Cambodia. He said that he considers Sam Rainsy's remarks to be an immoral insult to the Prime Minister of Cambodia.
In a message of support released on Tuesday, 18 October, Supreme Patriarch Bour Kry stated, “I absolutely oppose and strongly condemn the three generations of traitors who have been working against the legitimate Royal Government, which has received new statements and plans [of dissent]. A video clip [was released] aimed at overthrowing the Royal Government in 2023 and inciting the armed forces to revolt, immorally insulting the Prime Minister, the founding father of peace in Cambodia and our great national leader."
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for students of the National University of Management on Monday morning, 17 October, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Sam Rainsy’s statement was made with malicious intent to destroy the country’s peace and stability, and to disrupt the 2023 democratic elections. Next year also marks the 20th anniversary of Sam Rainsy declaring that “if Sy (Rainsy) stays, (Hun) Sen must go, and if Sen stays, Sy must go,” hence, the Prime Minister announced that he will be abolishing the ideology pushed by Sam Rainsy from now on.
“I will completely change and eliminate the extremist political ideology of the three generations of traitors," said the Prime Minister. "You came to talk about the Hun [family], but the Hun family are not the same! The Hun family never knows how to betray [the country]! Hun clans have contributed to the country's development. It's Sam's (Rainsy’s) family that is a betrayal, from grandfather to father to son."
After this announcement was made, a series of ministries, and state institutions have issued messages in support of the Prime Minister, while the General Commissioner of the Police has also stated his intention to arrest Sam Rainsy and place him in prison. The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Command have also stated it is ready to defeat any form of insurgency against the government in Cambodia.
