NA President: Vietnamese Delegation's Visit Further Strengthens Friendship Between Countries

PHNOM PENH: Member of the Politburo and Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vu Van Thuong, met with the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Heng Samrin, at the National Assembly building on Tuesday afternoon, 18 October 2022.

The Vietnamese delegation's visit to Cambodia marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam and the 45th anniversary of the journey toward the overthrow of the genocidal regime of Pol Pot.

During the meeting, Vu Van Thuong emphasized that his delegation's visit to Cambodia was aimed at promoting, expanding, and strengthening the relationship between the two countries' parties and peoples.

He said that the Party and the State of Vietnam highly valued the National Assembly President's visit to Vietnam in the past two months as an important contribution to deepening bilateral ties.

In response, National Assembly President Heng Samrin said he believes the Vietnamese delegation's visit to Cambodia further contributes to the promotion of traditional friendship, solidarity, and cooperation in all fields between the Party, State, and people of the two countries.

The National Assembly President praised the progress of relations, friendship, solidarity, and long-term cooperation in all fields between Cambodia and Vietnam, which has steadily progressed the country's sustainable development and brought prosperity for both peoples, as well as contributed to regional and global peace and stability.

He also praised the excellent cooperation between the governments of the two countries, including the remarkable growth of bilateral trade. Recently, Cambodia and Vietnam successfully cooperated in the fight against Covid-19, leading to the reopening of both countries and resumption of economic and tourism activities.

This year, 2022, marks the 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. To celebrate this anniversary, the two countries have organized various events and exchanges of visits between senior leaders at all levels. In particular, Cambodia is ready to receive the visit of the President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Vuong Dinh Hue, and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, at the ASEAN Summit and 43rd IPA General Assembly in November.
