PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has expressed regret over the loss of student lives in the Kandal Ferry Accident last week. He reminded the authorities to be more careful, especially during flooding season, to better protect the lives of the people.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for students of the National University of Management on Monday morning, 17 October, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the 11 students who died in the ferry accident in Leuk Daek district, Kandal province.

The Prime Minister said he considered this incident a great tragedy for Cambodia. He thanked the King of Cambodia and all others who shared their condolences and extended their help to the families of the victims.

Prime Minister Hun Sen also said that the Cambodian people have been united in their hurt over this deeply tragic incident.

A ferry boat in Kandal carrying 15 students sunk at around 7 pm on 13 October 2022 in Koh Chamroeun village, Kampong Phnom commune, Leuk Dek district of Kandal province, causing the loss of 11 lives.

Authorities have now arrested three people, including the boat owner and other boat drivers, who currently remain at the Leuk Daek District Police Inspectorate for questioning.
