King Appoints Dith Tina as New Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries

PHNOM PENH: Dith Tina has been officially appointed by the King of Cambodia as the new Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, following a unanimous vote of confidence from all 111 members of the National Assembly on Friday morning.

The Royal Decree was signed on Friday, 14 October 2022, stating that His Majesty the King of Cambodia has ordered for the appointment of Dith Tina as the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

The decree also states that Prime Minister Hun Sen must be in charge of the implementation of this role from the date of signing.

It should be noted that on Friday morning, during the 8th session of the National Assembly of the 6th legislature, the National Assembly proceeded with a vote of confidence to appoint the new Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, which was announced by the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin. Prime Minister Hun Sen also attended the session and gave a short speech before the vote took place.

Voting went forward with a secret ballot, with a total of 111 members voting either in favor, against, or to abstain.

After all votes were counted, the result showed that all 111 members of the National Assembly had unanimously voted in favor of appointing Dith Tina as the new Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Previously, on 8 October, Prime Minister Hun Sen requested the President of the National Assembly to hold a vote of confidence to appoint Dith Tina as the new Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, replacing Veng Sakhon, who was removed from his position by the King after accepting a proposal of removal from the Prime Minister.

Dith Tina is the son of Supreme Court President Dith Monty, and has also been a Secretary of State at the Ministry of Mines and Energy since 2014.
