King Appoints Veng Sakhon as Minister Attached to the Prime Minister

PHNOM PENH: Veng Sakhon has been officially appointed by the King of Cambodia as a Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, according to a Royal Decree issued on Tuesday, 11 October 2022.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for students of Phnom Penh International University on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that he had presented a letter to the King, asking to have Veng Sakhon appointed as a Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, after being removed from his post as the Minister of Agriculture on 8 October 2022.

The Prime Minister stressed that he does not abandon anyone, but he also needs those responsible for the agricultural sector to promote the sector’s growth.

Dith Tina, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has been nominated by the Royal Government as the new Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to replace Veng Sakhon. Prime Minister Hun Sen has submitted a proposal to the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, to hold a vote of confidence to appoint Dith Tina in this position.

The National Assembly Standing Committee is set to review this proposal on Thursday, 13 October 2022 at 9 am.
