King Commends NA President for Leading the Work of Passing Laws in a Unified Manner

PHNOM PENH: His Majesty the King of Cambodia has commended the President and other leaders of the National Assembly for their role in leading the legislature in enacting laws to be related to the environment, politics, social situations, all in accordance with the Cambodian Constitution.

King Norodom Sihamoni delivered a royal message at the opening of the National Assembly's 8th session of the 6th legislature on Monday morning, 3 October, under the high presidency of the National Assembly President, Heng Samrin.

The King said that the National Assembly has been actively involved in researching various legislations that have been successfully implemented during the fight against Covid-19.

"These achievements show the true will of all people, with a happy smile and progress," he said.

The King also welcomed the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen who allowed the reopening of all sectors in the country. He said much effort has been made to lead Cambodia and gain the support of citizens across the country, including partners to develop the Covid-19 vaccination policy.

The opening of the National Assembly’s 8th session of the 6th legislature was attended by 93 members of the National Assembly. The session provided a briefing on the activities of the National Assembly between the 7th and 8th sessions of the 6th legislature.

The session also deliberated on the validity of the mandates of two candidates elected to the 6th legislature of the National Assembly to replace past members who passed away. Heng Bunthan, a Member of Parliament for Ratanakkiri Province, who replaced Bou Lam, and Nut Chea, a Member of Parliament for Phnom Penh, who replaced Chiep Sivorn.

Monday’s National Assembly session was also set to elect Chan Yoeun as a member of the National Assembly's Committee on Interior, National Defense and Civil Service and Sun Saphoeun as a member of the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Propaganda, and Information.

At the same time, the session also featured discussions of the draft law on the approval of the fourth protocol on the amendment of the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement.
