PM Thanks Opposition for Strengthening Hun Manet

Siem Reap: Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked the opposition for making the Prime Ministerial candidate Hun Manet stronger and to be ready for the big responsibility.

Speaking at a public forum during a meeting with nearly 3000 residents in Run Ta Ek village, Banteay Srei District, Siem Reap province this Saturday morning 1 October, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that many attacks on Hun Manet have made Hun Manet stronger, more protective, and created his own protection measures. The Prime Minister understands that the attacks on Hun Manet not only help the Prime Ministerial candidate but also demonstrate the weakness of the opposition.

The Prime Minister said: "To speak clearly, you [the opposition] are afraid! Because his father, Hun Sen, is recognized not only in the country but also abroad. In the future, Hun Manet, the people also know him. So these people are scared, [because] if you are not afraid, you should let Hun Manet do it [as long as the people vote for him].”

The Prime Minister stated that Cambodia is democratic, and the power of Hun Manet depends on the support of the people who voted for him.

Hun Manet was voted by the Central Committee of the CPP on 24 December 2021 as the future Prime Ministerial candidate. This vote was supported by all members of the party.

44-year-old Hun Manet is the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He was the first Cambodian to graduate from West Point Military Academy in the United States and also holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. At present, Hun Manet has the rank of a 3-Star Lieutenant General, and is the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.
