Havana: Cambodia to ship 6,000 tonnes of rice to Cuban government next month, especially to organize a visit by a group of Cuban agricultural technicians to study in Cambodia Also.
In a meeting with the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, on September 24, 2022, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, announced to provide 6,000 tons of rice to the Government and people of Cuba.
PM said that 6,000 tons of rice, 3,000 tons of aid from the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, and another 3,000 tons from the private sector.
"The 6,000 tons of rice will be shipped out of Cambodia in October and delivered to Cuba in December," PM Hun Sen said.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel thanked the Cambodian government, people and private sector for the rice aid.
In this meeting, PM Hun Sen and the President of Cuba discussed arrangements for the visit of a group of agricultural technicians to study agricultural in Cambodia, especially on rice.
Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that Cambodia will cover all the expenses for this research.
The Prime Minister considered the study on agriculture as part of ensuring food security between Cambodia and Cuba.
Cuba was a supporter of the People's Republic of Kampuchea after its liberation from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot in 1979. At that time, Cuba helped Cambodia in the fight against imperialism and the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, including provided food to Cambodia.
In a meeting with former Cuban President Raul Castro, Prime Minister of Cambodia also stressed that "Cuban aid at that time was very important for Cambodia, especially the Cambodian people who had just risen from the dead of the Khmer Rouge regime and needed to live. So help from Cuba is very important."
