PM Thanks Cuba for Helping Cambodia Over 40 Years Ago

Havana: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has told former Cuban President Raul Castro that the people of Cambodia have not forgotten what Cuba did to help Cambodia during the post-liberation period.

Speaking at a meeting with Raul Castro on September 24, PM Hun Sen stated that after the liberation from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot at that time, Cuba helped Cambodia in the fight against imperialism and the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

He reminded that in 1979, Cuba helped Cambodia a lot and still remember that at that time, Cambodia had Cuban sugar, a Cuban orphanage, and also a Cuban ferry.

"Cuban aid at that time was very important for Cambodia, especially the Cambodian people who had just risen from the dead of the Khmer Rouge regime and needed to live and learn. So help from Cuba is very important." he said.

Raul Castro is the brother of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Mr. Raul warmly welcomed the presence of Prime Minister, who paid a courtesy call on him at his residence, and said that he had done a lot of work with his brother, especially translating when Fidel Castro met PM Hun Sen in the 80s and 90s.

On that occasion, Prime Minister of Cambodia also said that he was really sorry that he did not visit Mr. Fidel Castro when he fell ill and died. The Prime Minister also said that the relationship between him and Fidel Castro seems like a father and son.
