PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Capital Administration has announced it will be providing 175 buses to transport people to their hometowns free of charge.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration announced on Monday afternoon, 12 September, that for the occasion of the upcoming Pchum Ben Festival, 175 bus units will be prepared as public transport free of charge for five days from 23-27 September 2022.

According to the announcement, 55 buses will be deployed as free public transport within Phnom Penh, while 120 buses will be prepared to transport people traveling to other provinces and returning to Phnom Penh . These latter buses will depart from 5:30 AM in the morning.

This public bus arrangement is to help alleviate the burden of travel expenses for civil servants, armed forces, workers, students, and all those who will travel to their hometowns to meet with their families during the festival.

At the same time, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration also called on all companies and bus owners to keep the price of transportation unchanged during Pchum Ben to contribute to the Royal Government and the Capital Administration’s efforts to facilitate the daily lives of citizens.

This morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to examine the possibility of designating free buses to transport people to provinces during Pchum Benh in order to help alleviate the cost burden of increased transport and taxi prices.
