The Red Cross organizes a workshop on the implementation of the strategy on "International Humanitarian Law."

Phnom Penh: The Cambodian Red Cross has organized a workshop to reflect on the views of young people on the implementation of strategies as well as to present knowledge, experiences, challenges, and solutions to the humanitarian work that young people have practiced.

The workshop was held on September 8, 2022 at the headquarters of the Cambodian Red Cross, with the participation of Mrs. Men NearySopheak, the First Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross, Mr. Pith Chamnan, the Permanent Vice President of the Youth Action Support Group, and members of the Cambodian Red Cross and the youth of the Cambodian Red Cross, a total of 79 people.

The workshop was held for one day with the participation and discussion of four groups of CRC youths from the CRC Youth Club, one of 24 educational institutions in Phnom Penh.

According to Ms. Men NearySopheak, this workshop was held in order to make young people to better understand the three main issues, the implementation of international humanitarian law, the reflection of youth activities and understanding a new document focusing on school safety and climate change.

She said: "In this full-day workshop, the Cambodian Red Cross wants young people to better understand the three main contents. Firstly, is the implementation of international humanitarian law; Secondly, is a reflection of the activities of young people to work in accordance with the strategy of the Cambodian Red Cross 2021–2030, which has four priority areas to achieve the direction of activities at the grassroots level to achieve global goals; and lastly, is an exploration of a new document on an international memorandum of understanding with ASEAN, focusing on school safety and climate change.

She also thanked the participants for taking the time to attend this workshop and commended them for their courage in discussing and presenting their personal views by sharing their knowledge and humanitarian experiences that young people themselves have practiced in the past.

On the closing of the workshop, Mr. Pit Chamnan read the remarks of Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, who sent a message of consideration and attention to all the children and youth of the Cambodian Red Cross.

At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation for this event while seeing that all young people really have a high understanding, ability, and determination to be ready to be the successors of Cambodia in the future.

Finally, Mr. Pit Chamnan encouraged all young people to work hard and seek knowledge both inside and outside the school, especially to increase their ability to update digitally, along with other activities in society, to participate in the development of the country, like participating in maintaining peace in the country, the region, and the world.

All young people attended received certificates of appreciation and gratitude from Samdech Kittipritthbandit, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, along with some souvenirs.
