National Assembly President Sends Condolence Letter to UK Speaker Following Queen Elizabeth II’s Death

PHNOM PENH: The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Heng Samrin, has sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Sir Lindsay Harvey Hoyle, conveying his condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, 8 September 2022.

“On this moment of greatest sadness, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia and on my own behalf, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to you, the bereaved family, as well as the brotherly people of the United Kingdom for the great loss of your beloved monarch,” wrote National Assembly President Heng Samrin.

He said that the Cambodian National Assembly mourns the departure of Queen Elizabeth II with the fraternal British people, and added that Her Majesty's legacy and devotion to her nation will be missed and remembered by all British subjects and people around the world.

He further noted that Cambodia and the United Kingdom have a longstanding relationship built on mutual respect, with both countries also working closely together on a number of areas at both bilateral and multilateral levels, to further strengthen existing relations in the interests of both nation’s peoples. He also took the opportunity to convey his profound thanks to the United Kingdom for its substantial assistance to Cambodia.
