South Korean Deputy Minister of Interior Visits Cambodia to Examine Job Market Information System

PHNOM PENH: The Deputy Minister of Interior and Security of the Republic of Korea, Han Chang-Seob, has travelled to Cambodia to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries, including examining the establishment of an online job market information system in Cambodia called WorkNet.

In a meeting with the Cambodian Minister of Labor on Monday afternoon, 5 September, Deputy Minister Han Chang-Seob highlighted the importance of establishing an online job market information system in Cambodia to help serve job search services and provide job market information more efficiently, prioritizing the management and use of the system.

Labor Minister, Ith Samheng, thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for assisting the National Employment Agency (NEA) of the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training on the development of employment services and labor market information systems.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, finding a job was very difficult, so the system has really facilitated job seekers efficiency," he said. "In fact, if you want this system to run more efficiently, you need to have highly competent organization, management and use.

He further asked the Korean side to help train human resources and share past experiences with the qualified officials of the National Employment Agency, in order to ensure the WorkNet system is utilized with high quality.

It should be noted that in April 2018, the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training of Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a project on the “Development of employment services and labor market information systems in Cambodia.”

The project has three major phases. The first phase in 2018, involved the development of Information Strategic Planning (ISP) in Cambodia for WorkNet. The second phase from 2019-2020 involved the installation of technical equipment and software to create the service system and online job market information website, WorkNet. The third phase, beginning in 2021, involved the transfer of knowledge and technical monitoring and evaluation.
