Hun Manet Says There are No Days When He and His Brothers are Separated

PHNOM PENH: The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, has said that there is no day when he and his brothers are separated. He slammed the analysis that he and his brother, Hun Many, are both vying for the job of Prime Minister as being “ridiculous.”

Speaking at a ceremony on Saturday, 3 September, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet confirmed that the five siblings of the Hun family are like a pillar that helps maintain the family’s balance and strength.

He added that the five brothers and sisters love each other and have no intention of competing with one another as they are all aware of each other’s respective roles.

"Waiting for my brothers and I to break up is like waiting for a horse to grow horns, waiting for a catfish to grow scales, it will not happen!" he said. "This is my response to analysts that say my brother and I are [not on good terms].”

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet was responding to an analyst, likely Mr. Kim Sok, who stated during a Khmer-language interview with a foreign news media site that Hun Manet and Hun Many were both vying for the position of future Prime Minister.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of two new flyovers in Phnom Penh last week, Prime Minister Hun Sen sent a message to Mr. Kim Sok, without directly mentioning his name, telling him to have control over his own family first, adding that if he and his wife are unable to live in harmony, then he should not make analyses of the Prime Minister’s family.

At the same time, the Prime Minister’s youngest son, Hun Many, also stated that he considered the suggestion that he was running for the position of Prime Minister against Hun Manet to be a joke.

Hun Many stated on his Facebook page on 31 August that he has already publicly declared his full support to Hun Manet's candidacy as the future Prime Minister.

"In addition to our family, leaders, members of the Cambodian People's Party, all of us in the past and in the future have also expressed support for Brother Net's candidacy," he said.

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen, was elected by the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party as the future Prime Ministerial candidate on 24 December 2021. This vote was agreed upon by all members of the party, including Hun Many.
