Minister of Information Confirms That There Is No Exception For Any Media Institution That Publishes Cursing Words

Phnom Penh: The Minister of Information, Mr. Khieu Kanharith, has reaffirmed that from now on, any information institution that publishes obscene words, the Ministry of Information will follow the procedures and legal standards by revoking the license. He made these remarks during a regular weekly meeting at the end of August at the Ministry of Information on Monday morning.

On this occasion, Minister Khieu Kanharith confirmed that this is the instruction of the Prime Minister Hun Sen made after the Ministry of Information closed a press license on August 22, 2022 after being published through the news page It uses inappropriate and insulting language.

Undersecretary of State and spokesman for the Ministry of Information, Meas Sophorn, said that in the first eight months of 2022, the Ministry of Information has just revoked the license of the one media unit that published or commented on its media using abusive and insulting word.

On 22 August, the Minister of Information decided to revoke the license to broadcast information to Mr. San Bunthoeun after he had committed immoral acts that infringed on the dignity of professional journalists and violated the business contract held with the Ministry.

The decision to revoke San Bunthoeun's broadcasting license came just one day after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen reacted to San Bunthoeun's actions in drinking, smashing dishes and cursing publicly on social media. The Prime Minister said that "the evil character of San Bunthoeun cannot be changed" and ordered the expulsion from the army.
