Ministry of Labor Begins to Disseminate Pension Rights to Workers

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Labor has sent its officials to inform workers in factories, enterprises and companies, of the benefits under the social security system, which come in the form of pensions for workers under the Labor Law.

From 11 July to 9 August 2022, Ministry officials visited 686 workplaces with 298,240 workers (218,081 of which are women).

In a press release issued on Tuesday, 9 August, the Ministry of Labor said, "Through the campaign to promote the social security system on pensions for individuals under the provisions of the Labor Law, good results have been achieved with great cooperation on the part of employers and owners of enterprises. The workers have expressed their satisfaction and happiness that the Royal Government has established a social security system for pensions for the private sector."

On 1 July, the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Labor signed the circular on the implementation of social security system pensions for individuals under the provisions of the Labor Law, indicating that from now on, private sector employees will receive the same pension as government employees.

Article 2 of the inter-ministerial circular states, "The social security system providing pensions for individuals under the provisions of the Labor Law shall be implemented from 1 July 2022 onwards."

It should be noted that the sub-decree on the social security system for pensions for individuals under the provisions of the Labor Law (pensions for private sector employees) was first established by the government on 4 March 2021.

The sub-decree aims to introduce a social security system of pensions for individuals subject to the provisions of the Labor Law, including persons working in two or more workplaces.
