The Provincial Governor Sends a Message be Careful After the News of a Foreigner With Monkeypox Entering the Country

Phnom Penh: The governors of Banteay Meanchey and Sihanoukville provinces issued a series of voicemail messages following reports of a Nigerian man who infected Monkeypox interning the country.

Banteay Meanchey provincial governor Oum Reatrey ordered his subordinates to step up border controls and search for the man to be sent to a health center.

He said: "Please, districts, communes, sangkats, please look for the people in this picture immediately we hear this man come into Cambodia with Monkeypox disease."

At the same time, the Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, Mr. Kouch Chamroeun, also sent a message to the provincial leaders, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Labor, local authorities to increase vigilance and seek this person to implement health measures as soon as possible.

"This Nigerian is a person who has been infected with Monkeypox and has escaped from the control of the Thai government and has reportedly passed into our Sihanoukville province, so please be attentiob and manage with a sense of responsibility and care."

Osmond Chihazirim Nzerem, a 27-year-old Nigerian man with Monkeypox, disappeared from a hospital in Phuket, Thailand, on July 22. According to the news, this Nigerian has traveled to the Cambodian border.

However, according to some reports, Thai authorities also detained the man at the border in Sa Kaeo province while Cambodia authorities at the border have tightened security.
