Foreign Companies Sign MoU to Buy Longan from Cambodian Farmers

PAILIN: Two foreign companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cambodian farmers in the provinces bordering Cambodia and Thailand to buy longan fruit.

The two companies that signed the MoU are CP Cambodia Co., Ltd., represented in Pailin Province, and China Jinan Engineering Import Export (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., announcing an order of longan with four other province communities.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday morning, 19 July, at the Pailin Provincial Department of Commerce, chaired by the Minister of Commerce, Pan Sorasak, along with representatives of several companies.

The Minister of Commerce urged local companies to have more agricultural processing and closer cooperation between neighboring countries and foreign companies in order to be more honest.

He said, "For community challenges, we have to come to the Department of Agriculture to learn the techniques and produce standardized agricultural products to take to China, and most farmers do not yet understand their agricultural production.”

At the same time, the Minister instructed department heads in the provinces to learn more about vegetables, export documents, and to find out about foreign companies, to make it easier to export products smoothly and quickly.

It should be noted that during the Royal Government Spokesperson's Unit press conference on Tuesday, 19 July, the Director General of the General Department of Agriculture, Mr. Ngin Chhay, confirmed that the governments of Cambodia and China had just completed inspection and discussion on the process of exporting longan to China on 15 July, and the department hopes to be able to begin exporting the fruit soon.
