Foreign Minister: Ukraine Cannot Join the ASEAN Meeting This Year

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, DPM Prak Sokhonn, has confirmed that Ukraine has submitted a proposal to ASEAN to become an ASEAN dialogue partner, but due to a delay in the application process and evaluation, Ukraine will not be able to participate in this year’s meeting. This matter was confirmed by the DPM to the National News Agency of Cambodia, AKP.

DPM Prak Sokhonn has, however, also confirmed that following talks with the ASEAN Secretary-General on 18 July 2022, Ukraine will be able to join the ASEAN dialogue next year.

The 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings will be held from 31 July to 6 August 2022 in Cambodia. Delegates attending the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings will be from a total of 39 different countries, including Cambodia. There will be 27 countries participating in the ASEAN Regional Forum and 12 ASEAN guest delegations.
