Government Appoints Cambodian Competition Committee

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia has appointed a Cambodian Competition Committee consisting of seven relevant ministries and institutions, as well as some legal and economic experts.

The committee is chaired by the Minister of Commerce, Pan Sorasak, with four deputies from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Interior, and with nine members in total.

The decision to form this committee, dated 14 July, states, "The mentioned components shall perform the roles and responsibilities as stated in the Law on Competition and the Sub-Decree on the Organization and Functioning of the Competition Committee of Cambodia."

The Cambodian Competition Law was signed into force by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni on 5 October 2021. This law defines activities that hinder or undermine competition, as well as establishes and defines the competence of the Competition Commission of Cambodia in order to encourage new business relationships and help consumers access high-quality, low-cost goods and services with many different options.
