PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulated the Cambodian national petanque athlete, Ouk Sreymom, for winning a gold medal at the World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, in the United States, defeating American Rebekah Howe, 41-21 points on, the morning of Wednesday, 13 July (Cambodia time).

The Prime Minister wrote on his official Facebook page, "Congratulations to Ouk Sreymom on defeating the American host to win a gold at the 2022 World Games."

Eight countries competed in the World Games 2022: Cambodia, Canada, USA, Denmark, France, Thailand, Belgium, and Germany.

The game uses a rotational formula, meaning the two highest-scoring athletes continued to the semi-finals. The other six athletes then competed for the next top two to advance.

As a result, Ouk Sreymom, who finished third, competed against the runner-up, Katrine Junge from Denmark, in the first round. The Cambodian 2021 World Gold Medalist performed well with a score of 37-23, and advanced to the finals to go head-to-head with Rebekah Howe from the United States, who defeated the athlete from Thailand in the same semi-final.

Reaching the finals, Ouk Sreymom managed to beat American Rebekah Howe 41-21, to become the gold medalist in the Petanque Precision Shooting - Single Women event at the World Games 2022.
