Nearly 200,000 Doses of Covid-19 Vaccines Arrive from Australia

PHNOM PENH: 196,800 doses of Pfizer vaccines from Australia for children were delivered to Cambodia this Friday morning, 8 July.

The vaccines arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport and were welcomed by the Australian Ambassador and the Minister of Health of Cambodia. The Australian Government has pledged to send a total of 482,400 Covid-19 vaccine doses to the Royal Government of Cambodia to help prevent the outbreak of Covid-19.

The current shipment of vaccines is in addition to the 2.35 million doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines, a total of 133 freezers and refrigerators, and other essential equipment, send by Australia to Cambodia as bilateral aid, amounting to AUD $35.7 million.

Cambodia has received nearly 53 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines and still has 8 million doses left in the vaccine warehouse. About 20 million doses of vaccines have been received as aid, while the rest have been ordered but not yet shipped to Cambodia.

As of Wednesday, 6 July, Cambodia has vaccinated more than 94% of its population of 16 million people. In addition to receiving the two base doses, Cambodia has now began administering fifth dose shots. The third booster dose has already been given to more than 10 million people, the fourth dose has been given to nearly 3 million people and the fifth dose has been given to more than 340,000 people.
