Cambodia and France Hail Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodia and France have expressed their “satisfaction” with bilateral trade and investment cooperation. The statement was made during a farewell visit by the French Ambassador, Ms. Eva Nguyen Binh to Minister of Commerce, Mr. Pan Sorasak. The Minister thanked the ambassador for her efforts to strengthen and enhance trade cooperation between both countries during her diplomatic mission, which is coming to an end.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Minister also expressed his gratitude to the French government for its grant, via the French Development Agency (AFD), to support Cambodia’s post Covid-19 tourism recovery. He also affirmed the ministry’s readiness to facilitate French businesses and investment in Cambodia, especially in the areas of food processing, fresh produce and tourism.

The outgoing French ambassador, in turn, praised the Royal Government’s endeavours in promoting economic diversification, legal and regulatory reforms, and institutional capacity-building. She also congratulated Cambodia on its hosting of the 13th ASEM Summit later this year, as well as the ASEAN Summits and related meetings in 2022, when Cambodia’s assumes the chairmanship of the regional body.

Figures from the Ministry of Commerce show that bilateral trade between Cambodia and France was valued at $456-million in 2020 and $157-million over the first four months of this year.
