Temple Dedicated to the First Lady’s Mother Has Been Completed

TAKEO: The new temple in Sleng Pagoda in Takeo province, dedicated to First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen’s mother, has been completed and will be named "Preah Vihear Morokot Bun Seangly.”

The new temple in Sleng Pagoda, located in Sleng village, Kork Prech commune, Kirivong district, Takeo province, is 12 meters wide, with a length of 37 meters and a height of 33 meters, and was built with a total budget of $1.25 million dollars.

The boundary burial ceremony will be celebrated for four nights and five days from Friday, 1 July to Tuesday, 5 July 2022. The religious ceremony is led by the venerable Am Lim Heng, the First Deputy Priest.

The ceremony includes ancient Buddha statues and paintings in the temple, inviting 137 monks.

Sleng Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Kirivong district of Takeo province. According to ancient inscriptions and artefacts, the pagoda was built in the late 16th century AD 1622, and is over 300 years old. The reason that this pagoda is called Sleng is because it was built atop Phnom Jing Chak mountain, which is rich in big Sleng trees, so the Chief Inspector and the elders who founded the pagoda agreed upon the name Sleng.

It should be noted that the inauguration ceremony of "Preah Vihear Morokot Bun Seangly" in Sleng Pagoda, to be handed over to the monks on 5 July, has been presided over by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet.
