PM: Election Results Confirm Vaccines in Cambodia Do Not Discriminate Against Politics, Religion or Ethnicity

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that the percentage of people vaccinated against Covid-19 in Cambodia has increased to about 94% of the total population. When looking at the results of the recent Commune/Sangkat Election, he said people who went to the polls voted for both the ruling party and the opposition, which proves that vaccine distribution in Cambodia was not politicized.

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the 2020-2021 and Start of the 2022 Training Courses of the Royal School of Administration with more than 2,000 students, the Prime Minister said, "With the consensus, it doesn’t matter which party [the people belong] to get vaccinated against Covid-19… Only 74% of people voted for the CPP [in the last election], meaning that the remaining 25% voted for others. When asked if they had been vaccinated, all voters had been vaccinated."

He continued, "This means that vaccine [distribution] in Cambodia does not discriminate against politics, religion, or ethnicity."

As of 11 June 2022, the vaccination rate in Cambodia is at 94.1% of the 16 million population. This includes 103.23% of those aged 18 and above, 100.65% of those aged 12-17, 109.23% of those aged 6-11, and 133.6% of those 5 years of age.
