Preliminary Results Show CPP Still In First Place

Phnom Penh: The Cambodian People's Party, which has led the Cambodian government for more than 43 years, is still in the first place with the most support from the people. This is according to the preliminary data that the NEC is counting.

In announcing the provisional results of the 5th Commune / Sangkat Council Election 2022 on Sunday night, June 5, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has overtaken other parties in almost all communes, followed by the Candlelight Party.

The Cambodian People's Party was formed on June 28, 1951 by Cambodian nationalists to liberate the Cambodian nation from French colonization. It is the oldest party in Cambodia and led the struggle to liberate the Cambodian people from the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979 and has continued to lead the Cambodian government to this day.
