Texas Teacher And Husband Who Died Two Days After Rampage, Buried Together

INTERNATIONAL: A solemn funeral was held in Uvalde, Texas on Wednesday (June 1) for Irma Garcia, 48, one of the two teachers killed in the bloodiest U.S. school shooting in a decade, and her husband, Jose Garcia, 50, who died of a heart attack two days after the shooting.

The couple, who were high school sweethearts, are survived by four children.

The funeral was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the same church that will see the funerals of many of the 19 students, aged 9 to 11, who were shot to death last Tuesday (May 24) along with two teachers by an 18-year-old gunman who burst into their fourth-grade classroom at Robb Elementary School and opened fire with an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle.

The GoFundMe page for their family has reached over 2.87 million dollars.

Uvalde, a town of 16,000 predominantly Latino and Roman Catholic residents, lies 80 miles (130 km) west of San Antonio.
