The competition was organized by a local radio station and saw 19 entries. The event coincides with Nicaragua's Mother Day celebration.

The winner was 31-year-old Leyla Rebeca Hernandez, who is nine months pregnant. She was awarded a refrigerator, baby products, and 5,000 cordobas ($130 US).

She said, “All my friends told me to participate because they saw that my belly is big. They told me I would win and that I should take part in the competition.”

Hernandez's belly measured 57 centimeters (22 inches).
