Hun Manet urged to promote closer ties between Cambodia and the Netherlands

PHNOM PENH: Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Mr. HUN Manet, spoke about the friendly relations and good cooperation between the Kingdom Cambodia and the Kingdom of Netherlands, especially the exchanging of activities in trade and tourism. In recent years, there has been a significant increase, despite some of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the afternoon of May 24, 2022, the meeting was held at the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) Headquarters with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Cambodia. Remco Johannes VA Wijngaarden who is residing in Bangkok.

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet thanked the King, the Royal Dutch Government, the Dutch people, as well as the Dutch Army, for their continued support of Cambodia in many important areas, including demining assistance in Cambodia, financial support for the Khmer Rouge tribunal and the provision of AstraZeneca vaccine assistance through the COVAX in which contributed to Cambodia's success in controlling the pandemic of Covid-19 and the reopening of the country in all areas so far.

In response, the Ambassador recalled the long-standing historical relationship between the Netherlands and Cambodia in the Mekong River trade, and to this day the volume of bilateral trade, including tourism, continues to grow significantly. The Ambassador also praised the Royal Government of Cambodia for its achievements in establishing effective policies to combat Covid-19, especially the rapid implementation of nationwide vaccination campaigns.

The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation for the positive development of the political situation in Cambodia, which is reflected in the regular process of organizing the 2022 Commune / Sangkat elections, as well as the national elections in Cambodia in 2023. He hopes that the success of this democratic process will be a common success for the nation and the people of Cambodia as a whole.

Finally, Hun Manet and the Ambassador also expressed their intention and hope to promote closer ties in all fields between the two countries and people. They hope to start in any level of cooperation between the two armies.
