China is Cambodia's largest trading partner and has become the largest rice and banana export destination

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China have organized the Cambodia-China Business and Investment Forum 2022 under the theme "Sharing Opportunities for Development and Creating Regional Prosperity" semi-online and in person. In Phnom Penh on Wednesday, May 18 to promote economic, trade, and investment development in Cambodia.

Secretary of State and spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce Seang Thai, on behalf of the Cambodian Minister of Commerce, praised the implementation of the strategic policy following President Xi Jinping's in-depth reforms on Chinese governance and the introduction of The Belt and Road Strategy for International Cooperation, which plays a key role in promoting China's economic growth and trade, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China in all fields have been strengthened and expanded year by year.

"Cambodia-China trade cooperation has been continuously strengthened and expanded under the visionary and cooperative leadership of the top leaders of Cambodia-China, in which under the regional framework, both sides have participated in establishing trade agreements. "ASEAN-China Free Trade will push for the achievement of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP)." Mr. Seang Thai's added.

Seang Thai said under the bilateral framework, Cambodia and China signed the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement in October 2020 and entered into force in January 2022, paving the way for a partnership. Strategies and promotion of economic and trade cooperation between Cambodia and China.

Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce Qian Keming said that under the leadership of the two countries leaders, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Cambodia has been deepened year by year and the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has been further promoted, while practical economic-trade cooperation has yielded remarkable results.

"Investment cooperation between the two sides involves areas such as agriculture, electricity, textiles, and communications, and the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, invested and built by Chinese enterprises, has created about 30,000 jobs for the region." The forum also featured a presentation on the general state of the Cambodian economy and the free trade agreement by the leadership of the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce and the Cambodian Investment Policy Promotion Environment.

The forum also highlighted the advantages of exporting agricultural products by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and the investment climate in Sihanoukville.
