PM tells lobbying company to explain to US to understand Cambodia more

Washington: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has told US lobbying firm Akin Gump how to persuade the United States to better understand Cambodia, especially issues that the United States has long misunderstood about Cambodia, such as Ream naval bases, Cambodia's stand and the suspension of military's drills with other countries.

During a meeting with Akin Gump representative Mr. Scott David Parven, prime minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia-US relations have improved both diplomatically and economically, however, a number of misunderstandings have affected this relationship. The prime minister urges Scott to explain to the United States more about Cambodia.

Mr. Scott David Parven confirmed to prime minister Hun Sen that when he met with the Cambodian Embassy in the United States, he reported on building good relations with the United States. He confirmed to Cambodia prime minister that his company has worked with key person in the US government, including the Congress and the Senate, to encourage the United States to understand Cambodia.

Minister attach to Prime Minister Kao Kim Hourn told reporters: "In order to improve relations between the two countries, especially to make the United States continue to understand the position of Cambodia involved in dual work, the parties or the ASEAN framework, especially the position on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, trade climate change, Cambodia's humanitarian efforts."

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, headquartered in Washington, DC, is an international law firm and the largest lobbying firm in the United States. The Cambodian government hired the company to persuade the US government for about $ 720,000 for a year, the documents of which were released on January 21, 2022.
