PM Urges People to Join Hands to Prevent the Return of Covid-19

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen celebrated the fact that Cambodia has not had a single case of Covid-19 in the last three days. He said this successful outcome is the result of the collective participation of the public, government officials and health workers, in the fight against Covid-19.

In a special message released by the Prime Minister before boarding his flight to the United States to co-chair the ASEAN-US Summit, he said that although this trip to the United States is important, he felt that he did not fulfil his duty as a brother as he was not able to do a full seven-day ceremony following the following the death of his older brother, Samdech Tep Nhean Hun Neng. The Prime Minister said, however, that attending this summit is a part of his duty to the nation which he must fulfill.

On another note, the Prime Minister’s message also expressed happiness regarding the fact that Cambodia has not recorded any new cases of Covid-19 in three consecutive days. He, however, still urged the public to continue participating in the fight against Covid-19 to prevent the transmission of the disease within the local community again.

He attributed this good result to the success of the nationwide vaccination campaign.

As of Monday, 8 May, Cambodia has not recorded any new cases of Covid-19. Cambodia has so far recorded a total of 136,262 Covid-19 infections, 3,056 deaths, and a total of 133,181 recoveries. From these totals, 21,219 cases were imported, and a total of 14,459 cases that spread in the community were the Omicron variant.
