Consultative Meeting on ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar to be Held on 6 May

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, and the ASEAN Secretary-General, in his capacity as ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Coordinator (SG-AHAC), Dato Lim Jock Hoi, will co-chair the Consultative Meeting on ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar on 6 May in Phnom Penh via video conference.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, 5 May, the Consultative Meeting will be attended by high-level representatives from all ASEAN member states, ASEAN External Partners, United Nations specialized agencies and other relevant international organizations, both physically and virtually.

The press release further states that the Consultative Meeting will provide a high-level platform for ASEAN to initiate a multi-stakeholder dialogue that serves to provide guidance on how to advance ASEAN’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar based on humanitarian principles and without discrimination.

Additionally, all those in attendance at the meeting will discuss mutually agreeable solutions on how to enhance the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Myanmar whilst leaving no one behind; how to address the operational challenges faced by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre); and how to support the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to all communities in Myanmar.
