PM Will Stay in Power for Another 10 Years

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that he will stay in power for another 10 years before passing on his position to the next generation.

The Prime Minister made this remark during a meeting with the Cambodian sports delegation participating in the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam on Thursday morning (28 April) at the Koh Pich Theater in Phnom Penh.

He said, "My chances are very high for another 30 years, my fortune teller predicted that I can live to 101 years old. But of course, I will not hold the power for 101 years, at most for another 10 years. Because my family ancestors lived to not less than 90 years old, my father went through hardships, but he still lived until 90, and my grandfather until 93."

Prime Minister Hun Sen, currently 69 years old, first served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1979 at the age of 27 and became the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia in 1985. He is one of the longest-serving Prime Ministers in the world. On 2 December 2021, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced his support for his eldest son, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet as the future Prime Minister.
