Pakistani PM Visits Chinese Embassy, Vows To Punish Perpetrators

INTERNATIONAL: Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad Tuesday afternoon to express his deepest condolences to the families of victims in a terrorist attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, according to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan.

The terrorist attack occurred Tuesday afternoon inside a university in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, where an explosion ripped through a shuttle passenger van of the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, leaving three Chinese teachers killed and one Chinese teacher injured, the statement said.

Strongly condemning the attack, Shahbaz said he is deeply grieved by the loss of precious lives of the Chinese friends in the heinous terrorist attack in Karachi.

"We offer deep condolences to the government of China and the people of China and convey our sincere sympathies to the bereaved families. I want to assure you on my behalf and on behalf of the government of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan that we will hunt down these perpetrators, culprits, killers and we will not rest until we've caught them and given them exemplary punishment," said Shahbaz in an interview after his meeting with Chinese Charge d'Affairs Pang Chunxue and other officials.

On the measures to guarantee the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan, Shahbaz said, "[We will provide] now additional measures to cover and protect the lives of our Chinese friends, wherever they are in Pakistan. And tomorrow the Interior Minister is flying to Karachi to assist our government of Sindh and provide them any help from the federal government, including getting to the culprits, nabbing them and investigating the case, whatever is required from the federal government. Everybody is at the disposal of our brothers in the province of Sindh, the chief minister and his government."

"On the other hand we are going to review the entire security position and take all measures, all possible measures to augment and strengthen the security of our Chinese friends in Pakistan. Because they are not Chinese, to me they are Pakistanis and there's no difference at all. So we will spare no effort," he said.

Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, said Shahbaz, adding that such vicious acts against the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China will never dent the iron brotherhood between the two countries or hinder bilateral cooperation.

"Bilateral relations, I think our two countries, our friendship is proverbial, it is unmatched and it is stronger than ever before. It is extremely warm and we will not allow any kind of disturbance in this friendship come what may," said the prime minister, adding that the government of Pakistan will not allow the terrorists to drive any divisions between the two peoples.
