PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Interior, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, has urged the International Organization for Migration to continue its cooperation with Cambodia, while both sides have exhibited good working relations until now.
In a meeting with the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration for Asia and the Pacific, Nenette Motus, on Tuesday, 26 April, the Minister of Interior, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, praised the good cooperation of the IOM with Cambodia over the years.
He continued that during the Covid-19 outbreak, the Royal Government of Cambodia has made great efforts to pay attention to many activities related to migration, especially Cambodians who migrate across the border between Cambodia and Thailand. The IOM has also been actively involved in the ongoing settlement work, by helping to rebuild checkpoints for migrant workers returning to Cambodia.
In response, the Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the IOM praised the Cambodian Ministry of Interior's support of migration related work since 1993. She also congratulated Cambodia for ranking sixth in migration work as well as for assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022.
Finally, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng expressed hope and confidence that IOM will continue to support Cambodia on migration and climate change in the future.
