BREAKING NEWS: PM Announces No Mask Duty at all public places

Phnom Penh: The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, has announced the cessation of the duty of wearing masks in all public places throughout the country from today, leaving the people to decide for themselves whether to wear them or not.

In a special audio message on April 26, 2022, PM informed all people across the country that after a meeting between the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Health, the government has now decided to remove the duty to wear a mask in public places, but this duty is still kept in closed places, such as buildings, cinemas, meeting halls.

The Prime Minister said that this is to help reduce the extra costs of having to buy masks, which is a huge extra expense for many. At the same time, he encourages people to continue monitoring their own health and do rapid tests when in doubt. He further ordered the Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions to continue monitoring the situation and be ready to respond quickly after the mask mandate is lifted.

He said in his special message, "I, your Prime Minister, hope that lifting the mask mandate will create a happy atmosphere for our people. It will also contribute to saving costs by shifting the cost of buying masks to buying other items like food, clothes for children and saving for other purposes." He added that instead of wearing masks, every citizen must go to get at least three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.During the handover of the vaccination ceremony from Italy on April 25, 2022, yesterday, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, stated his intention to remove the obligation to wear a mask in public to help the livelihood of the people who have to spend a lot on buying a mask

He added that in order to promote the effective removal of the mask, he urged all citizens to go out and get at least three doses of vaccination, and announced a third dosing campaign.

During the handover ceremony of over one million vaccines sent by Italy on Monday, 25 April 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen had stated his intention to lift the outdoor mask mandate, to aid people’s livelihoods and reducing spending on masks. He said that in order to promote the effective removal of mandatory mask-wearing, all citizens are urged to get at least their third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and, in tandem, announced the national third dose vaccination campaign.
