BREAKING NEWS: PM Wants to Lift Obligation to Wear Masks in Public

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has instructed the Minister of Economy and the Ministry of Health to examine the possibility of lifting the obligation to wear masks in public places in order to aid people's livelihoods and ease the cost of buying masks.

While speaking at the handover ceremony of 1,056,000 doses of Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccines from Italy at the Peace Palace on Monday morning (25 April), Prime Minister Hun Sen said that some countries in the world have already waived mask-wearing requirements in public, so Cambodia also needs to look into this issue, since more than 93 percent of the population has already been vaccinated.

However, he said he is first waiting for the results from the meeting between the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Health, assessing the situation and the feasibility of lifting mask-wearing requirements, which will take place on Monday afternoon.

In this regard, the Prime Minister said that in order to promote the effective removal of the mask-wearing mandate, all citizens are urged to get vaccinated with at least three doses to ensure stronger immunity against Covid-19.
